Muhammad Adamu Abubakar, mni, NPM, CFR, popularly known as the Walin Lafian Bare-Bari, is a revered son of Nasarawa State whose legacy of service, discipline, and patriotism continues to inspire generations. Born on September 17, 1961, in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Adamu rose from humble beginnings to become one of Nigeria’s most accomplished law enforcement professionals, culminating in his appointment as the 20th Inspector General of Police (IGP) from 2019 to 2021.
An academic giant in his own right, Adamu holds a Bachelor's Degree in Geography from Ahmadu Bello University and a Master’s Degree in International Criminal Justice System from the University of Portsmouth, UK. His education, coupled with vast international exposure, placed him on a global pedestal of excellence.
Spanning over three decades of meritorious service, Adamu’s career in the Nigeria Police Force was marked by honor, integrity, and innovation. His key assignments include:
Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5: Oversaw operations across Bayelsa, Delta, and Edo States with distinction.
Director of Peacekeeping and Training: Spearheaded capacity building, training reforms, and peacekeeping strategy for the NPF.
Commissioner of Police, Enugu State: Known for professional policing, community engagement, and peace enforcement.
His impact transcended Nigeria’s borders. As a top official of Interpol, he was the first African to serve as Director of NCB Services and I-24/7 Development a feat that placed Nigeria firmly on the global map of law enforcement innovation.
