In what political observers have described as a political tsunami and historic milestone, the ancient city of Doma played host to a special session of the 'Nasarawan Mu, Amanan Mu' Political Movement, where the group officially announced its defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The event, held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, marked a significant turning point in the political trajectory of Nasarawa State as Umaru Aliyu Doma, former gubernatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and state leader of the movement, publicly declared his resignation from ZLP and his formal alignment with the APC.
The move sent ripples through the state’s political space as hundreds of supporters, drawn from the state, local government, and ward structures of the ZLP, followed suit—signaling a mass defection and reinforcing Doma’s influence as a formidable political force in the state.
Among the top defectors were:
- Hon. Salihu Abubakar Mahanga – ZLP State Deputy Chairman
- Alh. Abubakar Usman Ekushunta – State Vice Chairman (Southern Zone)
- Gimbiya Halima Abdullahi Kuku Onda – State Vice Chairperson (Western Zone)
- Hon. Aliyu Abdullahi Lamino – State Assistant Secretary
- Hajiya Aishatu Yahaya Talle – State Treasurer
- Hon. Aliyu Umar Alamanta – State Organizing Secretary and former PA to Gov. Abdullahi Sule
- And several other state executive members, LGA chairmen, ward leaders, and thousands of grassroots supporters.
The defection was officially endorsed during a session filled with goodwill messages, cultural displays, and a unanimous resolution to embrace the APC. In his speech, Umaru Aliyu Doma described the move as a step towards unifying progressive forces and supporting the development agenda of Governor Abdullahi Sule.
Party loyalists hailed the movement's decision, describing Doma as the guiding light of their political journey, with many vowing to consolidate the APC’s presence in the state ahead of future elections.
The event ended with cheers and celebration, signaling a new chapter in Nasarawa’s political landscape.
