The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Ibrahim Abdulazeez Musa as the substantive Clerk of the House, alongside Mr. Paul Okugya as the Deputy Clerk.
The confirmation was announced by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, during plenary on Monday in Lafia, the state capital, as the legislature resumed sitting following the Sallah break.
Mr. Ibrahim Musa had been serving in an acting capacity since December 6, 2023, following the illness of the former Clerk, Ego Maikeffi Abashe, who passed away on March 1, 2025.
Until his new appointment, Mr. Paul Okugya was the Director of Protocol of the House. The Speaker congratulated the newly appointed principal officers and wished them success in their new responsibilities. A minute of silence was observed in honour of the late Clerk, Mr. Abashe.
Meanwhile, the House also considered two important bills during the session. The first was “A Bill for a Law to Amend the Re-enacted Nasarawa State House of Assembly Service Commission Law 2023 and Other Incidental Matters Thereto,” which passed first reading. The motion for the bill to scale reading was moved by the House Leader, Hon. Suleiman Azara, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba. The second reading is scheduled for April 28, 2025.
Additionally, Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, representing Lafia Central Constituency, presented a private member bill titled “A Bill for a Law to Establish Lafia General Hospital and Other Related Matters Thereto,” which also passed first reading. It was seconded by Barr. Esson Mairiga, member representing Lafia North Constituency. The second reading of the bill is slated for April 29, 2025.
The Speaker commended members for their commitment and expressed optimism about the quality of legislative activities in the days ahead.
