A Minna based legal practitioner Barrister Mohammed Tsado Mohammed, has Petitioned the Commissioner of Police in Niger State CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman over the extra Judicial killing of one Mas'ud Garba of Bassa Community in Shiroro Local government area of Niger State.
The Legal practitioner in the petition, called on the State Commissioner of Police to Investigate the involvement of Isa Waziri a Vigilante group, General Danfulani a Vigilante Commandant in-charge of the community and Peter Konna Mani area DSS officer in-charge of the community over the killing of the deceased.
The Legal practitioner alleged in his Petition that some Vigilante group in the community led by Peter Konna Mani supervised the gruesome killing of Mas'ud a Butcher in the community.
The butcher, was reportedly forced to relocate to Gurumana Village near Kuta town in Shiroro following the persistent banditry attacks in Bassa in 2024, which caused him to lose his livelihood.
He had moved his belongings, including roofing sheets (zinc), to Gurumana for safekeeping.
The petition further revealed that one Isa Waziri, a welder also based in Bassa Village, had entrusted the deceased with some roofing sheets. However, due to financial hardship, the deceased allegedly gave the zinc to a man he owed N30,000.00.
When Isa Waziri returned to retrieve the zinc, the deceased explained the situation and pleaded for more time, offering to repay the value now agreed at N40,000.00, in instalments. Isa Waziri, however, was said to have become furious and left angrily.
According to the petition, on Sunday, 23rd March 2025, the deceased returned to Bassa to retrieve some of his belongings. Upon sighting him, Isa Waziri allegedly informed a vigilante officer known as General Dan Fulani, who, along with other vigilante members, arrested the deceased.
Eyewitnesses stated that the deceased was forcefully restrained, his hands tied behind his back and his legs bound to his chest, while he was fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. Attempts by the deceased’s uncle and the Bassa Village Committee Chairman, Mohammed Gindau, to secure his release reportedly failed, as Dan Fulani and Waziri demanded N300,000.00 as compensation before agreeing to untie him.
The petition added that the deceased was denied food and water from the 22nd to the 23rd of March and eventually died around 5:00 p.m. on the 23rd. He was allegedly buried by Isa Waziri and General Dan Fulani without the knowledge or consent of his family, and in a manner considered inhumane, reportedly buried vertically with his head facing downward, contrary to the burial practices of both Muslims and Christians.
When the family inquired about his whereabouts, they claim General Dan Fulani responded bluntly: “Your brother is dead oh! We have buried him. Please, we are sorry.”
Following the incident, some village leaders and personnel from the state security services reportedly approached the family to apologize for what they described as the "insane acts" of General Dan Fulani and Isa Waziri.
In light of these developments, the family is calling on relevant authorities to invite General Dan Fulani and Isa Waziri for questioning, with a view to ensuring justice is served.
