The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, announced the formation of the panel, which is tasked with investigating the immediate and remote causes of the incident and any defiance of the Command’s ban on Durbar and horse-riding activities during the Sallah celebration.

The violence led to the death of Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, and left one Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters injured. Suleman is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital.

Police have so far arrested two suspects: 20-year-old Usman Sagiru of Sharifai Quarters and 35-year-old Nasir Idris of Kofar Mazugal Quarters, in connection with the incident. Additionally, the Command has invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for interrogation over alleged defiance of the Durbar ban.

Reaffirming its stance, the Kano State Police Command warned that any individual or group engaging in Durbar activities or acts of thuggery (Daba) will be dealt with decisively.

The authorities assured that the Special Investigation Panel would expedite its findings to ensure justice is served and those culpable are held accountable.
