Jigawa Police Arrest Newlywed Groom, Three Others Over Bride’s Death in Disturbing Incident

In a shocking development in Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area of Jigawa State, the Police Command has arrested a newlywed groom and three of his friends over the death of his wife, following an alleged assault within days of their wedding.

The incident, which occurred around 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, was reported to the Sule Tankarkar Divisional Police Office. 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the groom, identified as Auwal Abdulwahab, 20, allegedly conspired with three friends  Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa, all aged 20 and residents of Tungo village to force his wife into non-consensual sexual activity. 

The situation tragically escalated, resulting in the wife's death.

Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer led a team of officers to the scene, where the victim’s body was evacuated to Gumel General Hospital. 

A medical examination confirmed her death, and the corpse was subsequently released to her family for burial rites.

All four suspects have been arrested and are currently in police custody as investigations continue. 

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State, CP AT Abdullahi, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dutse for further discreet investigation.

The suspects are expected to face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide under the relevant laws upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to the press on Sunday.
