The Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH), Lafia, on Monday, played host to a three-man accreditation team from the West African College of Surgeons as part of efforts to secure reaccreditation for its Residency Training Programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Leading the delegation, Professor Silas Ochejele lauded the hospital’s management for delivering affordable healthcare services and maintaining a high patient load, which he noted enriches the clinical experience of resident doctors.

He emphasized that such conditions provide residents with a broader range of medical cases, enhancing their training quality.

Professor Ochejele further encouraged the hospital to tap into the full potential of its teaching hospital status by prioritizing the welfare of consultants and resident doctors.

He advised that improved incentives and working conditions would foster staff retention and help combat the ongoing brain drain in the medical sector.

Responding on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Aboje Aboje, expressed gratitude to the visiting team.

He assured them of the hospital management's commitment to implementing necessary improvements that would strengthen the department and sustain high standards in postgraduate medical training.
