The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Barrister Isaac Danladi, has welcomed a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Environment’s Department of Forestry on a crucial mission to assess endangered species within the Farin Ruwa Forest Reserve.
The delegation, led by Abdulmalik Abubakar, is conducting a population inventory as part of the 2024 budget appropriation.
The initiative aims to develop a comprehensive wildlife information database in line with national and international conservation standards.
As part of their visit, the team plans to integrate tourism into their activities, highlighting the importance of wildlife conservation. Their assessment will provide critical insights into the state’s biodiversity, contributing to strategies for food security, rural poverty reduction, and economic empowerment.
The inventory will also help establish national guidelines for wildlife protection and border conservation efforts across Nigeria.
In his address, Barrister Danladi emphasized the significance of Nasarawa’s rich natural resources, particularly the iconic Farin Ruwa Waterfall, which serves as a key environmental and tourism landmark.
He assured the delegation of the state government’s full cooperation to ensure a smooth and effective assessment process.
