The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Isaac Danladi, has expressed optimism about the state’s environmental sanitation efforts while emphasizing the need for greater commitment from residents.
Speaking to journalists at his office after overseeing his first monthly sanitation exercise as Commissioner, Danladi commended the level of participation but acknowledged areas requiring improvement.
This is my first sanitation exercise as Commissioner, and I assure the people of Nasarawa State that we are making progress.
By the grace of God, we will continue to build on these efforts,” he stated.
Danladi expressed gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule for his unwavering support, acknowledging the contributions of security agencies, NGOs, and volunteers who actively participated in the exercise.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of maintaining daily environmental sanitation, rather than waiting for the monthly exercise.
He noted that accumulating waste at home until the end of the month poses serious public health risks and complicates waste management efforts.
“Many residents, especially in the suburbs, pile up waste in their homes and only bring it out during the monthly exercise.
Danladi also raised concerns over the impending rainy season, citing warnings from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) about potential heavy rains.
During the exercise, the Commissioner and his team visited key locations, including Tanko Al-Makura Street, the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, and Kwandare.
The task force also inspected the sanitation status at the Lafia Abattoir, where Danladi expressed displeasure over poor hygiene practices, urging relevant authorities to address the situation.
However, at Rimi Uku and Unguwar Sarkin Fada, he expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance and encouraged residents to sustain their efforts in maintaining a clean environment.
