The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has been thrown into mourning following the death of its longest-serving Clerk, Mr. Ego Maikeffi Abashe. He passed away in the early hours of Saturday after a prolonged illness.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, expressed deep sorrow over the loss in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Jibrin Gwamna. He described Abashe’s passing as a monumental loss to the legislative institution and the state at large.
"This is one death too many to bear. May God bless his soul and comfort all of us," Speaker Jatau lamented while praying for divine consolation for the bereaved family.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Service Commission, Alh. Musa Isa Mustapha Agwai I, through the Commission's Secretary, Muhammed Ohinoyi Musa, described the late Clerk as a pillar of the Assembly. He emphasized Abashe’s immense contributions to the state’s legislative process and governance.
Lawmakers, management, and staff of the Assembly, alongside the general public, have continued to express their condolences over the tragic loss.
Late Ego Maikeffi Abashe served as the Clerk of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for 15 years, having assumed the position in January 2010. His tenure made him the longest-serving Clerk in the history of the Assembly since the creation of Nasarawa State in 1996.

- Barr. Joel Sabo Aninge (1996 – Nov. 1999) – Now the Odyong Nyankpa of Panda.
- Barr. Aisha Aliyu Muhammed (Dec. 1999 – May 2003) – Now the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State.
- Late Moses Ondaki Abari (June 2003 – Feb. 2009).
- Late Suleiman Abdullahi Muhammed (March 2009 – Dec. 2009).
- Late Ego Maikeffi Abashe (Jan. 2010 – March 1, 2025).
- Mr. Ibrahim Musa (Acting Clerk since Dec. 2023, following Abashe’s illness).
The Nasarawa Assembly remains in mourning as it bids farewell to a dedicated public servant who played a crucial role in the state’s legislative affairs.
