The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Environment has engaged in a crucial dialogue with the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Isaac Danladi Esq, to address pressing security and developmental concerns in the state.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, emphasized the committee’s commitment to ensuring security and stability, particularly in communities affected by environmental and security challenges.
He revealed that over 400 licenses had been acquired for specific operations in the sector, yet only 10% of the license holders are currently active.
He expressed concerns over the activities of those already operating, questioning the potential risks if the remaining license holders commence operations without proper oversight.
“We must ensure that peace reigns in our communities and that necessary measures are in place to regulate these activities,” Hon. Omadefu stated.
On his part, Hon. Isaac Danladi Esq. described the meeting as timely and productive, reaffirming the ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the Assembly Committee to tackle environmental and security issues.
“We have agreed to work together to minimize these challenges.
This meeting is a fortunate coincidence, as the affected communities had earlier visited our ministry to highlight their concerns. I assured them that we would work with the relevant authorities to ensure justice is not only done but also seen to be done,” the commissioner stated.
He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to fostering peace, unity, and sustainable development in the state, assuring that necessary actions would be taken to address the issues raised.
The synergy between the legislative and executive arms of government is expected to yield positive outcomes in ensuring environmental safety, security, and sustainable development in Nasarawa State.
