In a bid to enhance environmental sustainability and urban sanitation, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State is spearheading efforts to transform Lafia, the state capital, into the cleanest city in Nigeria.

This vision aligns with his administration’s commitment to fostering a cleaner, healthier, and more environmentally friendly state.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Isaac Danladi, made this disclosure while hosting a delegation from Afri Earth Foundation, led by its Project Director, Lawrence Maphi, in his office.

The meeting centered on environmental reforms, waste management strategies, and potential partnerships to ensure effective waste-to-wealth conversion.

Hon. Danladi reiterated the state government’s resolve to collaborate with organizations committed to innovative environmental solutions.
He assured Afri Earth Foundation of the ministry’s readiness to work closely with them in tackling waste pollution and harnessing its economic potential for the collective good of Nasarawa residents.

Speaking earlier, Project Director Lawrence Maphi emphasized the foundation’s keen interest in establishing a strong partnership with the state’s environmental sector. He noted that despite their efforts to provide online employment opportunities in the waste recycling sector, only a few youths showed interest.
He attributed this to a lack of awareness and proper orientation on the potential of waste recycling as a viable means of economic empowerment.

Maphi reaffirmed Afri Earth Foundation’s commitment to addressing this gap by engaging and training young scavengers in waste recycling processes. He stressed that, beyond environmental benefits, transforming waste into wealth presents a unique opportunity for job creation, economic growth, and sustainable development in Nasarawa State.

With Governor Sule’s administration prioritizing environmental reforms, this collaboration is expected to accelerate efforts toward a cleaner, more livable Lafia, setting a benchmark for other cities in Nigeria.
