Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to expanding collaboration with the Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) to enhance agricultural development in the state. Speaking at the 2025 Annual Stakeholder Workshop organized by SAA Nigeria in Abuja, the governor highlighted the significant strides made in agriculture through this partnership.
Themed “Transforming the Agricultural Landscape through Digital Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services,” the workshop brought together key stakeholders, including federal and state agricultural officials, digital extension providers, and farmer organizations.
Governor Sule emphasized that with over 60% of Nasarawa's population engaged in agriculture, the state is positioning itself as Nigeria's agricultural hub.
“Our partnership with Sasakawa has been invaluable. While we continue harnessing our mineral resources, agriculture remains crucial, and we will keep investing in its growth.
I assure you that Nasarawa State remains a committed partner,” he stated.
The governor commended Sasakawa’s initiatives, particularly the establishment of two rice value chain development centers in Assakio and Agwatashi, funded by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
These centers have revolutionized rice production, processing, and marketing, incorporating storage, transportation, and training for local cooperatives.
Dr. Makoto Kitanaka, President of SAA, emphasized the organization's commitment to partnerships that drive food security in Africa, while Dr. Godwin Atser, SAA Nigeria Country Director, highlighted the transformative impact of digital tools on agricultural advisory services.
The event also featured awards recognizing excellence in agricultural development, with Nasarawa, Gombe, Jigawa, and Kano States receiving honors.
Governor Sule’s renewed commitment to Sasakawa signals a strategic effort to boost food security and agricultural sustainability in Nasarawa State.
