Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has directed Heads of Local Government Administration to assume control of the 23 local government councils following the Supreme Court’s recent judgments on the state’s political disputes.
In a statewide broadcast, Governor Fubara acknowledged the rulings, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law despite disagreements with the verdicts.
He assured the public that the judgments would be reviewed and fully implemented once the certified true copies are received by March 7.
"As a law-abiding government, we shall study the ramifications of the rulings and execute them accordingly to move the state forward," Fubara stated.
Citing the Supreme Court's stance against caretaker arrangements, he directed outgoing local government chairmen to hand over power to the respective Heads of Local Government Administration by Monday, March 3, 2025, pending fresh elections by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
Governor Fubara called for calm, urging residents to go about their daily activities peacefully, reaffirming his commitment to governance and stability in the state.
