The Court of Appeal, on Friday, March 14, 2025, reaffirmed His Royal Highness, Aminu Ado Bayero, as the rightful Emir of Kano.

It will be recalled that the Kano State House of Assembly had earlier dethroned Emir Aminu and replaced him with Muhammadu Sanusi II.

However, Alhaji Aminu Babba, the Sarkin Dawaki, challenged the decision in court, arguing that the removal was unlawful.

The court had subsequently issued an order to "maintain the status quo," affirming Aminu Ado Bayero as the legitimate emir.

In today's ruling, the appellate court upheld the previous judgment, reinforcing that Aminu Ado Bayero remains the Emir of Kano.

The ruling signifies a major victory for him over the Kano State Government, the state assembly, and his rival claimant, Sanusi.

Furthermore, the court condemned the decision to house Sanusi in one of the Kano royal residences, describing it as an act of injustice.

In a final pronouncement, the court affirmed that all five Kano emirs remain in their respective positions as originally established.
