The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, has called on School Support Officers (SSOs) across Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) to reaffirm their dedication to enhancing the quality of basic education in Nigeria.
Garba made this appeal during the opening ceremony of a three-day training workshop held in Abuja, aimed at strengthening the capacities of LGEA School Support Officers nationwide.
A statement released by UBEC’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, David Apeh, on Wednesday emphasized Garba’s commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) program. She stressed that the delivery of quality education to Nigerian children requires renewed dedication from all stakeholders.
Also speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Prof. Bashir Galadanci, underscored the vital role of School Support Officers in reinforcing the basic education sector through diligent monitoring and mentorship of teachers and school administrators.
He noted that it was fitting for the first UBEC-organized workshop under the new Executive Secretary’s tenure to focus on these officers, given their critical quality assurance responsibilities at the grassroots level.
The workshop, themed "Empowering SSOs to Champion and Support Technology Integration," aimed to equip participants with essential skills in educational technology integration for improved teaching and learning outcomes.
Additionally, it sought to enhance communication and collaboration skills to foster better mentorship between SSOs and school personnel.
These objectives align with UBEC’s core mandate of ensuring the provision of quality basic education for all Nigerian children.
