Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, has empowered 80 constituents with sewing machines and training in tailoring and dyeing.
The initiative, which took place at Obi Local Government Area, aimed to equip beneficiaries with practical skills for economic self-sufficiency.
Participants were drawn from Awe, Doma, Lafia, Keana, and Obi Local Government Areas, undergoing intensive training to enhance their livelihoods.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Senator Onawo commended their commitment and urged them not to sell the sewing machines, emphasizing that economic realities make self-employment crucial.
"The government alone cannot provide jobs for everyone.
That is why I have chosen to empower our constituents," he stated, recalling a previous initiative where 152 beneficiaries received laptops for ICT training.
He stressed that engaging youth in productive ventures is key to tackling rising insecurity.
Sanusi Abdullahi, a director at the National Council for Arts and Culture, praised Senator Onawo for his dedication to community development. Engineer Oikeh Ojo Obozo, Director of Procurement, also commended the senator’s leadership, highlighting the positive impact of his role in the arts and culture sector.
The senator urged participants to make the most of the opportunity, using the resources provided to build sustainable livelihoods. Beneficiaries, including Fatimah Ahmed, expressed gratitude, noting that the training and sewing machines would significantly enhance their businesses.
