Kogi State security forces successfully foiled an attempted abduction of motorists along the Ejule-Ochadamu road on Thursday, February 6, 2025. The incident occurred at Ofejiji in Ochadamu, Ofu Local Government Area, shortly after the convoy of His Excellency, Deputy Governor Joel Salifu, passed through the area.
The attackers targeted an 18-seater BD Express Bus conveying passengers from Otukpo, Benue State, to Lagos. Fortunately, the swift intervention of security personnel in the Deputy Governor’s backup van prevented the abduction. Upon receiving the alert, the Deputy Governor immediately directed security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, the police, and local vigilante groups, to pursue the kidnappers and ensure their apprehension.
Addressing the incident, Deputy Governor Joel Salifu expressed concern over the recurring cases of attempted kidnappings in the area and directed security agencies to establish a permanent checkpoint to deter future attacks. He reassured the public that the administration of Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo remains committed to eliminating criminal activities and ensuring the safety of all residents.
The Deputy Governor also urged the youth of Ejule, Ochadamu, and surrounding communities to shun criminal activities and cooperate with security forces by reporting suspicious individuals or activities. He reiterated that safeguarding lives and property is a collective responsibility and warned criminals to desist from their actions or face the full wrath of the law.
