In a renewed commitment to enhancing security, the Nasarawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has pledged to support the state police command in crime fighting and intelligence gathering.
Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali, made this declaration during a courtesy visit to the new Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, at the command’s headquarters in Lafia on Tuesday.
Alkali, who led members of the state executive council, emphasized the long-standing collaboration between the NUJ and the police, recalling past partnerships that yielded positive results. He lauded the command’s efforts in combating crime and assured that the media would continue to play a crucial role in intelligence gathering and public awareness to ensure a safer society.
He also urged the police to maintain a cordial relationship with journalists, highlighting the importance of transparency and effective communication in policing. He commended the command’s public relations initiatives, which have strengthened collaborations with stakeholders dedicated to professional and efficient law enforcement.
In response, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed reaffirmed the police command’s dedication to tackling insecurity, acknowledging the indispensable role of the media in crime prevention and public enlightenment. He noted that while no society is entirely crime-free, the command remains committed to professional policing to ensure the safety of residents.
The police commissioner called for enhanced media cooperation, stressing that a well-informed public is essential in the fight against crime.
