The Conference of APC Publicity Secretaries (CAPS), an umbrella body of spokespersons for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has condemned what it described as baseless attacks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by certain political figures.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, High Chief Otaru Douglas, CAPS accused former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, among others, of hypocrisy and questioned their moral standing to critique the current administration.
"We in CAPS are baffled that individuals like Nasir El-Rufai and his cohorts, whose governance records are questionable, now masquerade as agents of change and good governance," Douglas said.
According to him, the recent National Conference on Strengthening Democracy in Nigeria, organized by the African Centre for Leadership Strategy and Development, became a platform for political grandstanding rather than constructive criticism.
"While such forums should ordinarily promote healthy dialogue and provide solutions, it instead turned into a destructive theatre of incitement and political propaganda," Douglas noted.
He criticized speakers at the conference for recounting their perceived grievances without acknowledging their own failures during their time in government.
He singled out El-Rufai and Amaechi, describing them as "the architects of some of the nation’s current challenges."
"It is ironic that individuals with questionable records now present themselves as voices of reason.
Both El-Rufai and Amaechi should not be linked with good governance, given the corruption allegations that continue to hang over their heads," the statement said.
While CAPS welcomed constructive efforts to address national challenges, it warned against what it called "unholy alliances" by political actors seeking to destabilize the nation in preparation for the 2027 elections.
"For the avoidance of doubt, the APC is not intimidated by these antics aimed at inciting public unrest.
We will continue to support the president’s efforts to tackle the socio-economic challenges facing the country," Douglas declared.
CAPS reiterated its commitment to defending the integrity of the APC-led administration and vowed to use legitimate means to counter misinformation and protect public orders.
