The Bassa community and other displaced persons from Toto Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State have officially returned to their ancestral homes after years of displacement.
The Executive Chairman of Toto LGA, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya, assured the returnees of his administration's continuous collaboration with relevant agencies to sustain peace in the area.
Addressing the returnees at Government Secondary School (GSS) Ugya on Monday, the chairman—represented by his deputy, Hon. Atnadu Sunday Yakubu—reiterated the council’s commitment to promoting peace and unity among the communities.
"Anyone found attempting to sabotage the peace efforts or threatening the existing harmony will face the full wrath of the law," he warned.
He emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence for societal development. "Peace is priceless and non-negotiable. We must continue to pray and tolerate one another, regardless of our differences," he added.
Pharm. Yahaya called on the Bassa and other communities to remain united for the progress of the area. He also pledged to boost agriculture and attract investors to tap into the natural resources in Toto LGA for the benefit of the residents.
The chairman further urged the people to support Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration and its developmental agenda. He commended the efforts of the 177 Guards Battalion and other security agencies for ensuring peace, as well as the paramount ruler, HRH Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, the Ohimege of Opanda, for his role in maintaining harmony among communities.
In his remarks, HRH Aguma Bassa, Dr. David Tukura, expressed gratitude to Governor Sule for facilitating the return of his people and other displaced persons. He also thanked the council chairman, traditional and religious leaders, and security agencies for their support.
Dr. Tukura pledged that the Bassa community would remain law-abiding, respect constituted authorities, and promote peaceful coexistence.
The event was attended by the council secretary, members of the resettlement committee, and other officials tasked with ensuring a smooth return for the displaced persons.
