The APC Elders' Council of Benue North-West Senatorial District has strongly condemned recent unconstitutional actions by the Benue State House of Assembly.
In a press conference in Makurdi, the Council led by it's Chairman, Chief Akange Audi expressed deep concern over the purported removal of the Chief Judge of Benue State and the suspension of 13 members of the Assembly, 8 of whom are from their Senatorial District.
The Council denounced these acts as unconstitutional and a threat to democratic values, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting the rights of elected officials.
They referenced legal precedents and emphasized that the actions taken by the House of Assembly violate constitutional provisions and deny constituents proper representation.
Highlighting the need for adherence to the Constitution and the independence of the judiciary, the Council called for the immediate withdrawal of the suspensions and the cancellation of the Chief Judge's removal.
They also urged all political actors to prioritize the welfare of the people of Benue State over personal and political interests.
The Council emphasized the importance of dialogue and respect for the rule of law in ensuring the continued progress and development of Benue State.
The APC Elders' Council of Benue North-West Senatorial District called on all stakeholders to respect the rule of law and uphold the principles of democracy in order to ensure the continued progress and development of Benue State.
"It is imperative that all actions taken by our elected officials are in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and that the rights and privileges of all citizens are protected. Let us work together to build a peaceful and prosperous Benue State for all.
