In a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections, Hon. Usman Ibrahim Osabwa, a prominent political figure in Nasarawa State, has led thousands of supporters from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Hon. Osabwa, a well-known political mobilizer from Keana Local Government Area, was previously a key player in the APC but announced his defection alongside his supporters during a congratulatory visit to the newly elected PDP Chairman in the state, Alhaji Adamu Bako Ninga.
Speaking at the PDP Legacy Secretariat in Lafia, Hon. Osabwa described his decision to leave the APC as a transformative step for his political career and his community.
"This is the best political decision I’ve ever made. Since joining APC, I lost my political peace. Returning to PDP is a return to democracy, free from the grip of godfatherism," he declared.
He criticized the APC for what he termed as failures in governance and lack of democratic principles.
"The APC has proven to be the worst political party in Nasarawa State, unable to genuinely win elections or implement policies that serve the people. PDP, on the other hand, represents power to the people," he added.
Receiving the defectors, PDP Chairman Alhaji Adamu Bako Ninga, known as the Talban Mada, commended Hon. Osabwa and his supporters for their courage and welcomed them warmly into the party.
He assured all PDP members of fairness and inclusivity, encouraging other disenchanted citizens to join the party.
"The PDP is a home for all lovers of democracy and good governance. Despite the electoral setbacks, we are stronger and more determined to reclaim leadership in Nasarawa State and deliver people-focused governance," Alhaji Ninga stated.
The event was attended by key PDP figures, including Hon. Baba'adiza Keana and Alhaji Isa Ja'afar, as well as numerous supporters.
The visit marked a significant boost for the PDP in Nasarawa as it positions itself as a formidable force in the state's political landscape.
