The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, has called on the Afo Nation and other residents of the state to prioritize unity, peace, and forgiveness to foster development and societal harmony. He made this appeal at the Igbada-Odudu Kya Annual Cultural Day 2025, held on Saturday in Agwada, Kokona Local Government Area.
Speaker Jatau highlighted the importance of peace as a catalyst for progress, lamenting the recent communal misunderstanding in Apawu that led to the loss of two lives. He urged the community to cultivate forgiving spirits and to live in harmony.
“I appreciate this association for organizing the cultural day and promoting peace and unity among the Afo people and beyond. Let us continue to forgive and coexist peacefully for the betterment of all,” he said.
The Speaker thanked his constituents for their support, acknowledging their role in his election as Speaker of the House. He also called for continued backing of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration to enable the state to enjoy more dividends of democracy.
He commended Senator Abdullahi Adamu for establishing Phoenix University in Agwada, describing it as a significant step toward the area's development. “With this university and peace among us, Agwada can become a model community in Kokona and the entire state,” he remarked.
As part of his commitment to community development, the Speaker donated N1 million for the completion of the NYSC Lodge in Agwada and assured residents of his dedication to delivering democratic benefits.
Earlier, the Speaker visited the Osu Agwada, HRH Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Obagu, to receive royal blessings. The traditional ruler prayed for the Speaker’s success and pledged support for his leadership.
In his remarks, Hon. Adamu Agye, former Overseer of Agwada Development Area, praised the Speaker for his consistent support and assured him of continued prayers and backing from the community.
