The Director General of the National Directorate of Employment, Silas Agara, has hailed the revival of the Warri refinery as a transformative step for Nigeria’s economy, calling it a "game changer" that could reshape the nation’s economic trajectory.
Agara made the remarks during a New Year gathering at his residence in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, where he hosted youth organizations, APC members, political groups, and religious leaders.
Agara expressed optimism about the reopening of the Warri and Port Harcourt refineries, stating that these facilities would reposition Nigeria as an exporter of refined petroleum products, reducing dependence on imports and strengthening the national currency.
"This is more than just refining crude oil; it’s about revitalizing our economy," Agara said, projecting that the operational refineries would lead to an appreciation of the Naira, lower prices of goods, and ease financial pressures on Nigerians.
He also revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to expedite the rehabilitation of the Kaduna and Port Harcourt refineries, a move aimed at enhancing domestic energy production.
The convergence of various groups at Agara’s residence highlighted a collective desire for unity and progress as the nation welcomed 2025. With the revival of key refineries, Nigeria appears poised for an economic renaissance, signaling new opportunities for its citizens.
