The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has extended an invitation to former President Olusegun Obasanjo to inspect the Port Harcourt Refinery, following his recent remarks questioning its functionality.

Obasanjo had expressed concerns, referencing allegations by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) regarding corruption and accusing NNPCL of misleading Nigerians about the refinery's operational status.

In response, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, countered the claims, emphasizing the company’s commitment to transparency. Soneye revealed that the refinery has undergone extensive rehabilitation, marking a significant upgrade beyond routine maintenance.

He also invited Obasanjo to collaborate with NNPCL in bolstering Nigeria’s energy security, adding that the company has transitioned from a loss-making government entity to a profit-oriented private organization.

Addressing additional reports about halting crude oil supply to the Dangote Refinery, Soneye dismissed such claims as false.

“We value the wisdom and experience of our esteemed former president and welcome his guidance in our ongoing efforts to ensure energy security and deliver tangible benefits to Nigerians,” Soneye stated.
