Just In: Court Nullifies Rivers PDP Leadership Loyal to Wike, Voids 2024 Congresses

From Our Correspondent

The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State deepened on Monday as the Rivers State High Court nullified all party congresses held under the leadership of former Governor Nyesom Wike in 2024.

Justice Stephen Jumbo, delivering the ruling, declared the congresses conducted at ward, local government, and state levels as void, citing irregularities, violations of party guidelines, and failure to adhere to due process.

The decision effectively dissolves the PDP executive structures in Rivers State, which were dominated by Wike’s loyalists.

This ruling is considered a major setback for Wike, whose influence within the party has been a central factor in its internal disputes. During his tenure as governor, Wike was a significant power broker within the PDP, but this court decision further polarizes the party in the state.

The judgment allows for fresh congresses to be conducted, although no timeline has been set. Analysts warn that the division could weaken the PDP’s ability to present a united front in future elections.

The national leadership of the PDP has not yet issued an official statement regarding the court’s decision, leaving party members and stakeholders in anticipation of the next steps to address the fallout from this ruling.
