Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has clarified that there is only one legitimate House of Assembly in the State, headed by Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo.
Governor Fubara made this statement on Thursday after signing the Rivers State Appropriation Law No. 1 of 2025 at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
He emphasized the need to dispel rumors of a division within the Legislature, firmly stating that the Assembly remains united under Oko-Jumbo's leadership.
“There is no splitter in the Rivers State House of Assembly. We have only one Assembly, and it is led by Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo,” Governor Fubara declared.
The Governor dismissed defectors as having embarked on a futile mission, stating, “They started a journey but decided to return halfway. It is too late; we have moved on.”
Commitment to Development and Accountability
Governor Fubara assured that his administration would prioritize the interests of Rivers State and maintain the integrity of governance.
He pledged to fully implement the 2025 budget to improve residents' quality of life.
“With this budget signed into law, we will ensure every projection is executed, building on our achievements in 2024,” the Governor said.
He expressed gratitude to the Rivers State House of Assembly and the State Executive Council for their diligence and support. Commending the Commissioners for Finance and Budget, as well as the Acting Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Board, Governor Fubara urged them to exceed their previous performance to fulfill promises in education, healthcare, and agriculture while maintaining progress in infrastructure.
Speaker Commends Governor’s Leadership
Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, praised Governor Fubara’s administration for unprecedented progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social welfare.
He highlighted the Governor’s commitment to workers and pensioners, citing the payment of a N100,000 Christmas bonus and an N85,000 minimum wage.
“Governor Fubara has proven himself as a leader who prioritizes the well-being of Rivers people,” Oko-Jumbo noted.
The Speaker expressed confidence in the Governor’s ability to deliver exponential growth in 2025 through strategic planning and partnerships.
Budget Overview
Presenting the N1.188 trillion budget for the 2025 fiscal year, House Leader Hon. Sokari Goodboy Sokari underscored its progressive outlook.
He noted allocations for recurrent and capital expenditures designed to boost worker welfare, infrastructure development, and economic savings from projected revenues.
