Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, has reiterated his significant role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging skeptics to verify his claim through official records.
Speaking in a recent statement, El-Rufai asserted that his name is among the 34 individuals who signed the APC’s formation documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
"I am among the people that founded APC. Go to INEC and check the names of those who filled the form; you will see that I am among the 34 people who signed it," El-Rufai stated.
His remarks come at a time of renewed debate over the origins of the APC and the contributions of key political figures in its establishment.
As a former minister and governor, El-Rufai has been a central figure in Nigerian politics and the ruling party's evolution.
The APC was officially formed in 2013 through the merger of several opposition parties, including the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The party later went on to unseat the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general elections.
El-Rufai’s statement may reignite discussions about the contributions of founding members, especially as the party continues to navigate internal challenges and leadership changes.
