The Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice in Africa has addressed unfounded allegations circulating on social media regarding the qualifications of the newly appointed Executive Secretary/Chief Executive of the Edo State Hospital Management Agency.

In a press statement signed by the Country Director, Mr. John Mayaki, the Coalition dismissed the claims as baseless and clarified that the appointment adheres strictly to the provisions of the Edo State Hospital Management Agency Law, 2023.

The law stipulates that the appointee must demonstrate proven integrity, vast knowledge, and experience in health management and related matters. Notably, the law does not mandate specific academic degrees or certifications for the role but emphasizes competence, expertise, and integrity—criteria the current appointee fully satisfies.

The statement highlighted the composition of the Agency’s Governing Board, which includes professionals such as:

A medical doctor in private practice with at least five years of experience,

A medical doctor from a state-owned university,

Registered pharmacists, nurses, and medical laboratory scientists with a minimum of five years’ experience each, and

The Commissioner for Health or their representative.

According to the Coalition, the appointment was made by His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State, based on the appointee’s extensive expertise and ability to drive the Agency’s mandate of improving healthcare delivery in the state.

"We commend His Excellency for his exemplary leadership and discerning judgment in selecting an individual who brings competence, experience, and dedication to this critical role," the statement read.

The Coalition called on the public and stakeholders to disregard the false allegations and lend their support to the Agency’s leadership in achieving its goals for the betterment of healthcare in Edo State.
