The Supreme Court is set to hear a case on Monday, December 16, challenging the legitimacy of President Bola Tinubu’s presidency.
The suit, filed by Ambrose Albert Owuru, a former presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), seeks Tinubu’s removal from office over alleged disqualifications.
Owuru, who contested the 2019 presidential election, claims he was the rightful winner and alleges his mandate was invalidated by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.
Owuru’s legal submission cites a mix-up in hearing dates for a previous case he filed, which he argues obstructed the proper adjudication of his claims.
His current suit raises fresh allegations against Tinubu, including purported involvement in a drug-related offense that led to a $460,000 forfeiture in the United States and alleged links to the CIA, which Owuru claims disqualify Tinubu from holding office.
Owuru is asking the Supreme Court to declare him the legitimate winner of the 2019 election and to mandate his immediate inauguration.
The hearing date has been confirmed, and Tinubu has reportedly been notified through the Attorney General’s office. Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, is expected to represent the president in the legal proceedings.
