The Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) has nominated its President, Comrade Tijani Babangida (MON), to represent the association on the National Sports Commission (NSC) Board. This nomination was announced in a communique issued by the PFAN Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman, Comrade Harrison Jalla, in alignment with Section 2 of the National Sports Commission (Establishment) Act 2023.
The decision was reached during a PFAN BOT meeting held on Saturday, 23rd November 2024. Key resolutions from the meeting include:
Extension of Executive Tenure: The BOT unanimously approved an extension of the tenure of the Tijani Babangida-led Executive Council.
NSC Board Representation: Comrade Tijani Babangida was selected to represent PFAN on the National Sports Commission Board.
These resolutions are subject to ratification by the PFAN Congress.
In addition to these decisions, the BOT urged the PFAN Executive Council to engage with aggrieved members and foster unity within the players' union, adopting international best practices.
The meeting also addressed the ongoing legal challenges concerning equal and proportional representation within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The BOT emphasized the importance of securing representation for PFAN on the NFF Board, Congress, and Sub-Committees, a matter currently being deliberated at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The BOT assured stakeholders that any representation on the NFF Board would be based strictly on merit, reinforcing PFAN's commitment to fairness and excellence.
