The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, has disbursed the sum of N50 million alongside wrappers to 250 elderly citizens in Nasarawa State as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). This distribution marks the second phase of the programme aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable citizens nationwide.
Represented by Nasarawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Rufai, the First Lady noted that the initiative has been expanded this year to provide more robust support.
“The Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative has increased the grant from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to further support our elderly citizens during this festive season. A total of N1.9 billion will be disbursed across the country,” she stated.
She added that RHI coordinators in the 36 states, the FCT, and DEPOWA each received N50 million to ensure every beneficiary gets N200,000. In addition, the programme includes free medical check-ups and other essentials to enhance the well-being of the elderly.
Senator Remi Tinubu commended the efforts of State First Ladies, RHI State Coordinators, and partners in making the initiative a success. She also congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to prioritize their health by eating well, staying hydrated, exercising lightly, and spending quality time with loved ones during the festive period.
Speaking earlier, the wife of Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Tosin Akabe, advised the beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely and cautioned them against handing over the money to children or grandchildren.
In her remarks, the wife of the Nasarawa State Governor, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, appreciated the First Lady for her generosity and commitment to uplifting the elderly in Nasarawa State.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Fatima Hamza, Sa’adatu Usman, and Hamza Moyi, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian First Lady and Nasarawa State First Lady for the gesture. They prayed for God’s blessings and the sustainability of the initiative.
