The Niger State House of Assembly has approved the 2025 Appropriation Bill, tagged "Budget of Hope for Sustainability and Food Security." The bill, presented by Governor Hon. Mohammad Umar Bago on December 12, 2024, was passed into law following a detailed review by the House Standing Committee on Appropriation.
The approved budget amounts to ₦1,558,887,565,358.00, with ₦1,359,652,203,915.00 allocated for capital expenditure and ₦199,235,361,443.00 for recurrent expenditure. The report was presented by the committee chairman, Hon. Zubairu Ismaila (Rafi), who noted that the late submission of the budget led to a rushed review process.
Hon. Zubairu Ismaila urged the executive arm to ensure that future budget estimates are submitted at least three months before the end of the year to allow proper scrutiny and timely passage.
During the session, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, the House went through a clause-by-clause consideration of the report. The appropriation bill was unanimously adopted and passed into law.
In his remarks, the Speaker commended the Appropriation Committee and other standing committees for their dedication. He also appealed to Niger State residents to support government policies and programs while providing constructive feedback to ensure progress.
