In a statement signed by Hon. Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor (Public Affairs), the Nasarawa State Government has strongly refuted recent claims made by a national newspaper that pupils in public primary schools across the state are learning on bare floors.
The government asserts that the report is not only factually incorrect but appears to be part of a deliberate campaign to undermine the positive strides being made in the state's education sector under the leadership of Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule.
While it is acknowledged that certain schools may face infrastructure challenges, similar to those in other developing regions, the Nasarawa State Government has invested significantly in improving educational conditions. Recent efforts include the construction and renovation of classrooms, along with the distribution of thousands of desks, chairs, and other educational materials to public primary schools across the state.
The government has also committed substantial resources to enhancing school facilities, including perimeter fencing, borehole installations, geophysical surveys, and landscaping projects, all aimed at creating a more conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.
The State Government urges the public to disregard the false report, emphasizing the importance of journalists verifying information through official channels before publishing.
The government remains dedicated to improving educational standards by providing necessary facilities, investing in staff development, and ensuring the prompt payment of teachers' salaries and benefits.
