Nasarawa Deputy Speaker Champions Youth Development with Thrilling Football Tournament to Foster Unity

The Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Adamu Oyanki, has reiterated his commitment to youth empowerment and community development by organizing a football competition aimed at fostering unity and peace in his constituency. The event, held in Doma Local Government Area (LGA), saw Oyanki FC crowned champions after a thrilling 5-3 victory over FC Matawalle in the finals of the lawmaker's Unity and Peace Football Competition.

The tournament, which featured 16 local football clubs, was part of the Deputy Speaker’s ongoing efforts to unite the people of Doma and encourage peaceful coexistence. Speaking at the event, Oyanki commended the participating teams and emphasized the importance of maintaining the spirit of unity and love.

"I want to thank the people of my constituency for their unwavering support. This tournament is part of my campaign promise to bring us together in peace and understanding," Oyanki said. He also announced an increase in the prize money for next year’s competition, with plans to further expand the tournament in future editions.

The first edition of the tournament offered a prize of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira, which has now been raised to Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira, with the goal of reaching Five Hundred Thousand Naira by the next year.

Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, the Acting Governor of Nasarawa State, who was represented by retired Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Joseph Attah, praised the Deputy Speaker for his commitment to promoting peace in the region through sports. He also pledged continued support for initiatives that foster unity and development in Doma.

In recognition of his contributions to both sports development and public service, Rt. Hon. Oyanki was honored with the Sport Ambassador of the Year 2024 award by the Millennium Association of Doma. The award was presented by Joseph Attah, who highlighted Oyanki’s significant impact on the growth of sports in the region and his outstanding performance as a lawmaker.

The winners of the football competition received a trophy and a cash prize of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira, while the runners-up were awarded One Hundred Thousand Naira.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Sardauna Doma, Alhaji Musa Oye, representing the Andoma of Doma, Alhaji Ahmadu Aliyu Oga Onawo, Professor Ibrahim Hassan Ojiri of the Federal University of Lafia, and other notable figures.

In addition to the football tournament, the Deputy Speaker also highlighted several development projects in his constituency, such as the installation of a transformer, renovations of schools and hospitals, and other initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for the people of Doma.

Oyanki responded to public calls for his re-election in 2027, stating that while he appreciated the support, his primary focus remains on fulfilling his campaign promises and delivering tangible benefits to his constituents.
