A statement signed by Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, has dismissed the recent allegations made by the People's Democratic Party (PDP) against the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) regarding the minimum wage for teachers and local government workers.
The statement criticized the PDP’s Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Sani Dododo, for issuing a ten-point statement described as "baseless and incoherent." The government accused the PDP of attempting to "cry more than the bereaved" by questioning the NLC's role in protecting workers' welfare.
The government emphasized that the NLC remains the foremost advocate for workers' rights and welfare, stating that no other organization or party could claim to prioritize the workers more than the Congress itself.
It also highlighted the opposition's lack of focus, noting that their statement diverged into unrelated issues like internally generated revenue (IGR), healthcare, and tertiary institutions, which were irrelevant to the minimum wage discussion.
Furthermore, the government categorically denied claims that the NLC is being used as a political tool to campaign for elections.
“The hands of the government are clean, and the allegations are mere fabrications aimed at heating the polity,” the statement declared.
The release called on the PDP to fact-check its claims before going public and to adopt a more constructive and truthful approach in addressing state matters.
