The Kano State High Court has directed the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to pay Lamash Properties a compensation of N8.511 billion.
The court also ruled that the state government should cover the N10 million legal fees incurred by the company, which had followed due process in acquiring the demolished property at the old Daula Hotel.
In its judgment, the court stated that the demolition was carried out unlawfully, as Lamash Properties had acquired the property in compliance with regulations under the administration of former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
This ruling follows a similar judgment delivered in late 2023 by the Federal High Court in Kano, which ordered Governor Yusuf's administration to compensate property owners at the IDI site with over N30 billion.
The Kano State Government now faces the decision of either appealing these judgments in higher courts or paying a cumulative compensation of approximately N40 billion to affected property owners.
Failure to successfully appeal may result in significant financial implications for the state treasury.
