The Kaduna State Council of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has announced an indefinite strike action set to commence at 12:00 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024. The strike decision, endorsed by the National Executive Council (NEC) and the State Executive Council (SEC), follows the state government’s failure to implement the new minimum wage and its consequential adjustments.
In a notice signed by the State Secretary, Comrade Gado Hussaini Titus, the NLC expressed dissatisfaction with the government's reliance on "regurgitative statements" instead of taking concrete actions to address critical wage issues.
The union has directed all affiliates to ensure the total withdrawal of services across all sectors, mobilize members for full participation, and maintain close communication with the Council Secretariat for necessary guidance.
The Kaduna NLC commended workers for their resilience and called for unity during the strike action, emphasizing the need for fairness and justice in the labor system.
The strike action underscores the union’s commitment to securing better welfare for workers amid ongoing challenges.
