Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, visited the Lafia Modern Market to assess the damage caused by a fire outbreak that occurred late Thursday night, leaving a section of the market in ruins.
The Governor, accompanied by top government officials and market leaders, inspected the affected area and took note of the extent of the destruction.
Speaking to reporters during the visit, Governor Sule expressed gratitude to God that the fire incident was restricted to a small section of the market, preventing what could have been a more extensive disaster.
He commiserated with traders whose shops and goods were destroyed in the inferno, describing the incident as a tragic setback to the livelihoods of those affected.
Governor Sule emphasized the importance of supporting the traders to recover from the loss and assured them that the state government would intervene to provide the necessary assistance.
“While we are grateful that the damage was limited, I deeply sympathize with the affected traders. We will work towards providing the necessary relief and assistance to enable you to rebuild your businesses,” the Governor stated.
Governor Sule also commended the efforts of emergency responders and the local community for their swift action in containing the fire, which he noted prevented further escalation.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but the Governor directed the relevant authorities to investigate the incident and provide recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
The visit underscores Governor Sule's commitment to the welfare of Nasarawa State residents, especially those in the business community, who play a significant role in driving the state's economy.
