Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, paid a surprise visit to the Abubakar Umar State Secretariat to monitor the activities of the civil service in order to get firsthand information about the civil servants.
The visit demonstrated the Governor’s commitment to creating a productive work environment for civil servants, as the unannounced visit allowed him to assess the working conditions of the state employees.
During his visit, Governor Muhammad also inspected the Auditorial Building in the State Secretariat, reflecting his dedication to ensuring that government facilities are well-maintained and equipped to support the efficient delivery of public services.
As a seasoned administrator, Bala Muhammad understands the importance of a conducive work environment in driving productivity and efficiency. His surprise visit was a clear indication of his resolve to reform and revitalize the state’s bureaucracy.
The Governor, who inspected some offices, lamented the poor turnout of Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and other Senior Civil Servants to work at the time he visited, directing that henceforth, he will not take it lightly with anyone found wanting in the discharge of his/her duties, no matter how highly placed.
He warned Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries, as drivers of the Civil Service, to sit up and get to see the other side of him.
He enjoined civil servants to be just and fair in the discharge of their duties by always reporting to their duty posts on time for improved productivity and efficiency, and effective service delivery.
While addressing journalists on the unscheduled visit, the Governor said that it was to afford him the opportunity to confirm what he had been hearing about attitudes to work, warning that any government official who failed to abide by work ethics will be dealt with in accordance with the civil service rules and regulations.
The State Head of Civil Service, Yahuza Adamu Haruna, appreciated the Governor for the visit and urged civil servants to reciprocate the gesture by reporting to work on time and closing as and when due.
Under Bala Muhammad’s leadership, the state has witnessed significant reforms aimed at improving the lives of its citizens, from investing in education and healthcare to upgrading infrastructure and promoting economic empowerment, through which the Governor has demonstrated his commitment to transformative governance.
The Governor’s surprise visit to the State Secretariat was a testament to his hands-on approach to governance and his determination to ensure that his administration’s policies and programs are effectively implemented.

Governor Bala equally inspected the renovation of phase One of the NYSC permanent Orientation Camp in Wailo Village of Ganjuwa Local Government area of the State, where he expressed satisfaction with the quality of work executed by the Contractor
The Governor during an unscheduled visit to the project site, inspected the newly completed corps members’ hostels and the ongoing construction of a multipurpose hall.
Addressing journalists after the inspection, Governor Muhammad explained that the project was intented to address the problem of infrastructural decay and improve the living conditions of corps members posted to the state.
He commended the contractor for adhering strictly to specifications and assured that the state government would add value to the project by constructing new buildings and internal roads.
The State Chairman of the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, Architect Baba Muhammed Dadi, who conducted the Governor round the site, assured him that the work would stand the test of time.
In a related development, Governor Muhammad also inspected the ongoing construction of the Azare Ultra Modern Market in Azare town to assess the progress of the project.
During the inspection, the Governor urged business operators in Azare and the Katagum area to show more commitment by depositing funds that could be recycled into the construction of the market.
He noted that, at the moment, the project is solely being funded by the state government and the contractor.
Governor Bala Muhammad reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to delivering quality projects aimed at fostering economic growth and improving living standards in Bauchi State. End.
