The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has announced its active search for a credible and visionary candidate to contest the 2026 governorship election and unseat the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
This was disclosed by the Osun State Chairman of APGA, Wole Adedoyin, in a statement issued on Monday in Ilesa. According to Adedoyin, the party is resolute in its mission to offer transformative leadership to Osun State, emphasizing the need for innovative governance and sustainable development.
APGA expressed dissatisfaction with the current administration, describing Governor Adeleke's leadership as marked by "ineffective governance and missed opportunities." The party underscored its belief in the untapped potential of the state, which, it argued, can only be harnessed through strategic planning and competent leadership.
In its quest for a candidate, APGA has pledged an inclusive and transparent selection process, engaging communities, professional bodies, and youth organizations. The goal is to identify a leader who truly understands the challenges of Osun residents and is equipped to address them effectively.
“We are not just searching for a candidate; we are seeking a visionary leader capable of restoring Osun’s glory and positioning the state as a model of development in Nigeria,” Adedoyin stated.
The party announced plans for a statewide consultation to engage stakeholders, gather input, and outline its vision for the state’s future. This initiative will form the basis of APGA’s governorship blueprint, to be unveiled in the coming months.
APGA also emphasized its commitment to upholding democratic values and offering a credible alternative to the current administration. It called on Osun residents who share its vision to join the movement for progress, inclusiveness, and good governance.
The party highlighted its readiness to collaborate with grassroots organizations, civil society groups, and other progressive forces to build a formidable coalition capable of dislodging the incumbent administration.
Addressing voter apathy, APGA urged citizens to remain hopeful and actively participate in the electoral process. “The power to change Osun lies in the hands of the people, and APGA is determined to channel that power towards meaningful transformation,” Adedoyin added.
The statement also reaffirmed APGA’s confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free and fair elections in 2026. It called on the media and civil society to ensure that the elections reflect the will of the people.
Adedoyin concluded by urging Osun residents to place their trust in APGA, promising that the party’s candidate will lead with integrity, transparency, and a commitment to the well-being of all citizens.
“The future of Osun State is in our hands. Together, we can rewrite the narrative and create a brighter tomorrow for generations to come,” he said.
