Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, has reaffirmed his administration’s uncompromising stance against banditry and their collaborators, vowing to eliminate any threats posed by such criminals within the state.
Governor Idris delivered this warning during a condolence visit to Mera in Augie Local Government Area on Monday, following a recent bandit attack that claimed the lives of 17 individuals.
Describing the incident as a profound tragedy not just for Mera and Argungu, but for the nation as a whole, the Governor expressed solidarity with grieving families across Nigeria who mourn the victims. He underscored that security is a prerequisite for development, pledging to continue the offensive operations against banditry. The Governor highlighted the successes already achieved in restoring peace in Zuru and Yauri Emirates, allowing farmers to return to their fields safely.
To further strengthen security, Governor Idris announced the immediate procurement of additional vehicles to enhance the mobility and operations of security personnel across the state.
The Governor also condemned recent acts of extrajudicial killings wherein some individuals, purportedly seeking revenge, killed Fulani residents they suspected of involvement in the Mera attack. He cautioned against such acts of jungle justice and urged citizens to report suspicions to law enforcement authorities for appropriate action.
“I have directed the immediate arrest of those responsible for the unjust killing of innocent Fulani in retaliation. This administration will not condone lawlessness or vigilante justice,” Governor Idris stated.
During his visit, the Chairman of Augie Local Government, Hon. Yahaya Muhammad, expressed his gratitude for the Governor’s swift response and efforts to address security challenges in the area. At the Palace of the District Head of Augie, Alhaji Samaila Adamu Lamnen Augie, Governor Idris met with Fulani leaders and victims, assuring them that justice will prevail.
The Governor also announced a ten million Naira donation to support the Fulani victims and pledged further relief assistance for their rehabilitation.
One of the victims, Rugga Hore Mera, recounted how three members of his family were killed during the attack.
Governor Idris reiterated his call for peace and urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to justice and the security of all.
