The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, into custody over allegations of fund misappropriation.

Bello was apprehended on Tuesday afternoon shortly after voluntarily surrendering himself at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja. The former governor arrived at the anti-graft agency's office in a black Hilux vehicle, accompanied by his legal team.

The arrest follows a Supreme Court ruling that dismissed states' objections to the EFCC's constitutional powers. This decision paved the way for further investigations into alleged financial improprieties during Bello's tenure.

Sources reveal that the EFCC is grilling the former governor on various financial matters, including a fresh case brought against him by the commission. At a prior hearing on November 14, the EFCC had sought an adjournment until November 27, citing the ongoing 30-day window for the summons it issued against Bello.

The arrest marks a significant development in the commission's efforts to tackle corruption and financial misconduct among public officials.
