The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a statement clarifying the misunderstandings regarding Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda's remarks on poverty reduction during his Senate screening.

A group called Niger Delta Progressive Women Worldwide recently alleged that Dr. Nentawe, the Minister designate for Humanitarian Affairs, exhibited bias against southern regions in his strategy for addressing poverty.

The APC firmly refuted these claims, asserting that Dr. Nentawe did not suggest any preference for one region over another.

Dr. Nentawe's statements referenced data from the National Bureau of Statistics, indicating that 65% of Nigeria's impoverished population resides in the north, compared to 35% in the south.

He emphasized the need for targeted poverty reduction efforts that identify individuals by name within local government areas.

The APC pointed out that if Dr. Nentawe had displayed any regional bias, it would have been addressed during the Senate screening.

In fact, Senator Ned Nwoko from the Niger Delta publicly commended Dr. Nentawe’s poverty reduction strategy in a recent television appearance.

The party deemed the calls for Dr. Nentawe’s removal baseless and urged the public to dismiss such claims, reaffirming his dedication to combating poverty nationwide.
