The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has declared the results of the November 2nd local government elections, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) securing a sweeping victory, winning all 13 chairmanship positions and 140 councillorship seats across the state’s 13 local government areas and 147 wards.
Announcing the results today in Lafia, NASIEC Chairman, Barrister Ayuba Wandai Usman, praised the smooth conduct of the elections, noting the peaceful participation of the electorate.
APC emerged dominant in the chairmanship race, clinching seats in Lafia, Doma, Keana, Awe, Obi, Keffi, Kokona, Akwanga, Toto, Karu, Wamba, Nasarawa, and Nasarawa-Eggon.
In the councillorship contests, the opposition parties made notable gains, collectively winning seven seats.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) won five councillorship positions across Akwanga, Nasarawa-Eggon and Keffi, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) secured two seats in Doma.
Barr. Usman commended the high voter turnout and community engagement, attributing it to NASIEC’s extensive voter education efforts and collaborative efforts with the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and security agencies to ensure a safe, transparent process.
He emphasized NASIEC’s commitment to upholding democratic values and maintaining credible, transparent elections in Nasarawa State.
