Lafia, Nasarawa State – In a resounding victory at the People's Democratic Party (PDP) state congress held on Monday at the party’s secretariat along Jos Road, Hon. Adamu Bako Ninga was declared the new chairman of Nasarawa State PDP. Ninga secured a landslide 1,403 votes, vastly outpacing his rival, Bar. Mathew John, who garnered only seven votes, while four votes were deemed invalid, out of 1,414 accredited voters.
The event highlighted a strong turnout and decisive outcome.
Senator Simon Mwadkwon, the chairman of the PDP National Committee overseeing the Nasarawa congress, commended the electoral process, describing it as “credible and fair.
” He called for unity, emphasizing, “PDP is one big family. There is no winner and no vanquished. Whoever emerged today should remember that their mandate is to serve the people.”
Alongside Ninga’s election, key positions were filled in the state executive committee: Engr. Keffas Danlami as secretary, Yahaya Usman Bunu as treasurer, Chinenege Inusa Muhammed as state publicity secretary, and Hanatu John as state women leader.
Also Bala Aron was named state legal adviser, Dr. Jacob as state financial secretary, and Awesu Abdullahi as state auditor. Vice-chairpersons for the three zones of the state were also elected: Marshin Shema A (North), Isah Bala Mangi (South), and Atahiru Osu Audu (West).
In his acceptance speech, Ninga expressed gratitude to PDP members for their unity and pledged to prioritize reconciliation within the party. “Our duty is to reach out to members who may feel aggrieved, so we can work as one family,” he remarked, highlighting the importance of cohesion for future success.
Ninga also addressed concerns regarding transparency in election processes, advocating for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to play a greater role in local government elections. “Our party will not commit our members to waste their resources and energy unless transparency is assured,” he stated.
Dr. Emmanuel Ombugadu, the PDP’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Nasarawa, lauded the congress election as a triumph for internal democracy. “This election reflects the will of the people,” he said, adding that the party would work to resolve any internal issues amicably.
The newly elected leaders are set to focus on uniting the PDP and strengthening its presence across Nasarawa State in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
