The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has expressed gratitude to the Nigerian basketball community, particularly Zenith Bank Plc, following the successful conclusion of the 2024 Zenith Bank/NBBF Women's Premier Basketball League.
This marks the 17th consecutive edition of the prestigious competition, held at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
In a thrilling final, the MFM Women Basketball Club of Lagos defended their title with a 64-53 victory over the Nigeria Customs Basketball Club, with a capacity crowd on the edge of their seats throughout the game.
NBBF President, Engineer Ahmadu Musa Kida, praised Zenith Bank for its enduring sponsorship, which he said has significantly contributed to the growth and development of female basketball in Nigeria. "
Words alone are not enough to express our gratitude to Zenith Bank Plc for their immense support of Nigerian basketball over the years," Kida said.
He highlighted how the partnership between the NBBF and Zenith Bank has boosted the fortunes of female basketball, producing stars like Murjanatu Musa, who have gone on to represent Nigeria's national team, D'Tigress, on global stages.
Additionally, he noted that members of Nigeria’s U18 Afrobasket silver-medal-winning team, the Junior D'Tigress, were discovered through the league.
Kida also extended his appreciation to all stakeholders, players, and officials from the participating clubs across the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences, acknowledging their dedication to the sport.
Looking ahead, the NBBF President promised an even more intense and competitive tournament in the next edition, pledging top-quality games and improved organization.
He also expressed excitement about the upcoming promotion of the finalists from the Zenith Division 1 Women’s League to the premier league in 2025.
