Rivers State Governor Launches Judicial Inquiry into Arson and Violence at Local Government HQ

In response to the tragic incidents of arson, killings, and widespread destruction of property at several Local Government Council Headquarters on or about Monday, October 7, 2024, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, has established a Judicial Commission of Inquiry. The commission's mandate is to investigate the events and recommend appropriate actions.

The establishment of the Commission follows Section 2(1) of the Commissions of Inquiry Law, Cap 30, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999. The Commission will be chaired by Hon. Justice I.R. Minakiri, with the following members:

1. Hon. Justice I.R. Minakiri - Chairman


2. Barr. Felicia Nwoke - Member


3. Prof. Blessing Didia - Member


4. Sir Samuel Egbe - Member


5. Venerable Alex Usifor - Member


6. Barr. Uzor Ikenga - Counsel to the Commission


7. Mrs. Inyingi Brown - Secretary

The swearing-in of Commission members is scheduled to take place today, Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 4 p.m. at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt. All members are expected to be seated by 3:30 p.m.
