Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has raised an alert about potential violence planned by suspected gunmen targeting the 23 local government headquarters across the state. He issued this warning during the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected local government chairpersons at the government house in Port Harcourt.

Fubara urged the new officials to prioritize peaceful governance and steer clear of violence, emphasizing that the recent issues surrounding the local government elections had been resolved. He cautioned that confrontations may arise when the chairpersons assume office, warning them to stay vigilant.

"I’m aware that they are mobilizing 20 people per unit to confront you tomorrow at your local government headquarters. If they approach with violence, please avoid them. The peace of this state is too important to us," the governor stated.

Fubara further advised patience and strategic thinking, assuring the chairpersons that calm and measured responses would lead to long-term success. "We have made promises to our people, and we will lead them to the Promised Land," he added.
